The Silicon Valley Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) has been invited by the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of ASM International to join a dinner meeting and a technical talk on "Centrifugal Casting."
Centrifugal casting has two particular advantages: (1) complex, axisymmetric shapes can be cast to near-net-shape, and (2) alloys with wrought compositions can be cast and achieve wrought-like properties (e.g., 6061-T6 aluminum).
Our speaker's Bio:
Dr. Arvin Montes is a Senior R&D Materials Engineer at Johnson Centrifugal Technology in Saukville, WI. He received his undergraduate education in Mechanical Engineering and doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering at Marquette University. After leaving the university, he joined Johnson Centrifugal Technology. He has developed the wrought-like cast alloy technology there in addition to supporting other aspects of their centrifugal casting production. He has made presentations at several materials technology forums regarding this process.
